ETSI General Assembly reelects Dirk Weiler as Board Chairman

At their 70th General Assembly held on 28-29 November 2017, ETSI members selected a new Board and reelected Dirk Weiler of Nokia as Chairman of the ETSI Board.
Dirk has held various ETSI leadership positions during the last decade. He has chaired the ETSI IPR Special Committee since 2008 and has been Chairman of the Board since 2014. Dirk served as the Chairman of the ETSI General Assembly from 2010 to 2014.

An automated screening kiosk developed by a Missouri University of Science and Technology researcher could alleviate concerns about safety and wait time at U.S. airports and border crossings.
Dr. Nathan Twyman, assistant professor of business and information technology at Missouri S&T, has been developing a next-generation automated screening kiosk since he was a Ph.D. student at the University of Arizona. His screening kiosk uses an algorithm of "yes" or "no" questions delivered by a computer-generated avatar to quickly and efficiently assess the potential threats passengers may pose to others.

Gemalto is partnering with Veridos to supply contactless eIDs to the Macao Special Administrative Region Government (Macao SAR Government). Under the collaboration, Gemalto is the subcontractor responsible for providing the physical cards, enhanced with security features and seamlessly inc​orporating Veridos' operating system software solution. The partnership will ensure a steady and consistent supply of smart eID cards to the government.

The National Police Board of Finland and Gemalto have been announced as joint winners of the 2017 Award for Best Regional ID Document, reflecting their successful collaboration on the creation of the Nordic country's latest ePassport and eID card. Gemalto and IER1, a leading designer of solutions that improve the flow of goods and people, have teamed up to create Gemalto and IER Fly to Gate, an end-to-end​ self-service airport experience for travellers. Airport travel is booming; in 2016, there were 3.8 billion passengers and the International Air Transport Association (IATA1) expects this to double by 2035. This means that the industry and authorities will need to deploy automated solutions to optimize the flow of passengers while guaranteeing stringent security.

Gemalto has been chosen by the National Police Directorate of Norway (POD) to supply Sealys eID cards, residence permit cards and third generation Sealys ePassports. The new documents will be supported by Gemalto's Allynis Issuance and Coesys Case Management system which orchestrate all the steps of the citizen application from biometric enrolment to the issuance, delivery and post-issuance of the document. The solution has been designed to comply with ICAO best practices related to enrollment, document verification, identity proofing and lifecycle management. Start date for this program is 2018.
