The NFC Forum announced at 30th June the publication of a definitive white paper focused on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Near Field Communication (NFC) in the smart home. Titled Simplifying IoT: Connecting, Commissioning, and Controlling with Near Field Communication - NFC Makes the Smart Home a Reality, the white paper outlines the future of IoT devices in the smart home and how NFC will help developers and manufacturers bring the benefits of IoT to where we live, work, and play. It is available for download at no charge.
Comprion has developed a new testing API, a programming interface that allows developers to write their own test cases in the contactless environment (NFC Forum, EMVCo, ISO/IEC 18092, ISO/IEC 14443).
As the API offers the opportunity to implement user-defined scenarios in a lab environment, it is of high value for everyone involved in the development of contactless devices and applications. Product Manager Ralph Kamp explains, “Device and chipset manufacturers, for example, are interested in testing beyond what’s demanded by the different contactless standards. They want to test their devices at the limits and indicate and solve possible field problems before launch.” Furthermore, the Contactless Testing API is also a useful tool for manufacturers of contactless tags and readers, application developers, and test labs.
GlobalPlatform, the association which standardizes the management of applications on secure chip technology, has conservatively estimated that a total of 17.7 billion secure elements (SEs) based on GlobalPlatform Specifications were deployed globally between 2010 and 2015. That figure represents 41% of all SE shipments, as reported by Eurosmart, in that same period.
SIMalliance, the global non-profit industry association which simplifies aspects of hardware-based device security to drive secure mobile services, released its Open Mobile API (OMAPI) Test Specification for Transport API v2.2. The test specification outlines mobile device compliance to the OMAPI Specification v3.2 and defines test cases in order that conformance tests can be executed. This update makes it easier to implement and verify the use of the latest version of the OMAPI Specification in handsets.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been agreed between technical bodies GlobalPlatform and the FIDO® (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance. The two industry associations are working to ease FIDO authenticator development on GlobalPlatform-based secure component products. This will enable service providers to efficiently incorporate user authentication features – such as voice recognition and biometrics – as part of their GlobalPlatform-secure deployments.
Pretema, a provider of precision technology for electromechanical applications for the microelectronic and automotive industries and for applications that require a secure element, such as mobile communications, mobile payment, public transport or cyber security related devices, has joined Eurosmart as a new member. Eurosmart represents the Smart Security Industry in Europe.
